Nanpu Thermal Power Plant¡ATaiwan Power Company has long heeded the energy-saving policy of the government as well as the headquarters of the company and has devoted much effort to implement water-saving tasks. Especially in the recycling and reuse of boiler drain water and water from waste water sources, the plant has heavily invested in the construction of a sound recycling system with remarkable effects. Under the active promotion of incumbent general manager of the plant, the step-by-step installment of monitoring systems such as water meters in on water pipes is nearing completion. Every month the water recycling chart of the whole plant is analyzed and reviewed so as to effectively control and raise water-saving effects. In addition, a plan has recently been drawn up to collect and store rain water in the oil tank and waste water pool. This time the plant has won this award is the best encouragement for both Taiwan Power Company and all the employees of this plant. In the future, the plant will continue to invest in such projects so as to further achieve the purpose of preserving water resources of the planet.

• Exceeding in realizing a well-functioning water saving plan which is actively taken into steps by senior managers;    continuously carrying out further improvements despite its already effectively reduction result.
• Budgeting for water saving in short, medium, and long terms separately and putting into practice; installing rainwater    recycling equipment and transforming oil tanks into rain reservoirs.
• Demonstrating great results in implementing water saving projects by encouraging employees to come up with    proposals and by holding quality control circle activities.
• Evaluating the economic efficiency comprehensively, clearly listing out the reduced expenses of water, power and    medicine, demonstrating the great results to all.
• Promoting the water-saving projects in this power plant to other power industries.
• Establishing examining system on water consumption, making regular recordings and reports.

 
 
 

A.Water saving policy
    1.Establishing water saving management unit, installing the supervision and checking of various water saving        measures, and reviewing effects in the execution of these measures.

     2.Implementing water use control according to ¡§Water Resources Use and Management Measures¡¨ stipulated by        the plant in accordance with ISO 14001 environmental management system.
    3.Raising water saving effects by implementing a mechanism to review company employees¡¦ proposals, by holding        quality circle activities, and by improving facilities.
    4.Implementing the recycling and reuse of waste water from various sources, and effectively using water resources.
    5.Installing water monitoring equipment, and strengthening record follow-up and control of reasonable water use.

B.Improvement on water-saving equipment and effects
    1.Combustible oil injector in combustion chamber of micro turbine has been replaced with false oil injector. This will        spare the use of cooling water for seal water pump, thus saving minerals washing water in the amount of 25,229        tons a year.
    2.Adjustment of the degree of opening of continuous flushing valve: Enlisting water quality control in its operational        qualifications and the degree of its opening has been adjusted from the ordinary 5% to 10% to 0%. The amount of        water thus saved is 34,346 tons a year.
    3.Control of boiler drum body Water level in machine activation: Machines are activated in an appropriate time so        that one can manually control the drain valve in the bottom of the boiler drum body and keep the water level at        300 to350mm. Each activation saves water in the amount of 1.925 tons.
    4.Recycling and reuse of boiler drain water: Recycling water amount for boiler drain water, evaporated steam drain        water and system sampling water is 29,629 tons a year.
    5.RO/CDI boiler drain water recycling system: If machine frequently activates, the drain water amount is big, thus        recycling drain water in the amount of 9,545 tons a year.
    6.Improvement on minerals washing water regeneration method: The clock-wise washing time for anions has        changed from 60 minutes to 25 minutes and circulation time, 35 minutes, in order to save water amount. The        amount of water saved is 2,625 tons a year.
    7.Improvement on minerals washing water regeneration frequency: In the past if there is anions resin water taking        of 1,200 tons, regeneration will be implemented. It has been improved to a regeneration will be implemented after        water taking of 2,500 tons.
    8.Recycling and reuse of drain water of waste water treatment factory: Recycled water of waste water treatment        factory is used to supply water needed to grow plants, douse roads, and flush toilets, with an annual water saving        amount of 1,483 tons.
    9.Recycling and reuse of RO waste water: The sources of RO water making has gone through softening treatment.        The waste water produced after RO water making is recycled and stored at the water pool on top of the        administrative building for daily use. The amount of water saved is 934 tons a year.
    10.Installment of 2-step toilets and water-saving faucets: Toilets of the administrative building and general affairs         building are equipped with 2-step toilet equipment and sprinkler water faucets, thus saving water in the amount of         791 tons a year.
    11.Recycling and reuse of drain water of boiler rotating machine: Drain water recycled from boiler rotating machine         and prevention of leading with the improvement on machine packing are saving water in the amount of 7.1 tons a         year.
    12.Recycling and reuse of condensation water of air conditioner: The condensation water drain pipes of air         conditioners of control room are directed to No. 3 machine recycling drain water pool, thus saving water in the         amount of 5,475 tons a year.

C.Management and propagation
    1.40 water meters are equipped with various water pipes in the plant, recording water meter flow every day/month.        Water amount balance chart is drawn every month, analyzing water use conditions of various pipes.
    2.Leak detection work is done by specially assigned personnel for all faucets, water meters, and pipes in the plant.
    3.Water saving promotional materials are pasted on electronic pubic notice boards and on boards at different offices        and plant areas so as to strengthen employees¡¦ water saving ideas.
    4.On-the-job training courses and technical seminars are held to strengthen water saving education and training.        Representatives are also assigned to attend relevant seminars and exhibits on water saving.
    5.Rain water is collected from the plant area and stored in water tanks and pools. It is used to flush toilets, water        plants and douse roads.

 
 
 

The amount of water saved for 2005 is 118,288 tons, with a reduction of CO emission by 328 kilograms and a total reduction of expenses of NT$ 14,646,865. The water saving rate is 45.34¢H.
